I was very honoured to help document Chrisse and Lex’s big day. I was second-shooting for Derek Cheng of Generation Photography (www.generationphotography.ca). Before the ceremony, I headed out to Point Grey to meet with Lex, his family, and his wedding party (incidentally his wedding party was filled with his family!). I always love getting to know the brides and grooms as they always have great, interesting stories… in particular, Lex has recently immigrated to Vancouver from his home country of El Salvador to be with Chrisse and he’s working hard to become certified as a dentist here. Smart cookie!
Aside from that, this was one of the most well-done theme weddings I’d ever been to! Chrisse is in the movie industry and they wanted to do a total old-Hollywood, movie-themed wedding. Lex and the boys were decked out in ALL-WHITE suits, complete with white gloves, shoes, top hats, canes, and more. Derek mentioned to me beforehand that Chrisse’s attitude was: “this isn’t just a wedding, this is a PRODUCTION!” … Very cool!

This is Lex’s Mom, who was nervously revising her speech at the kitchen table. She spoke only Spanish, but I tried to convey to her not to be nervous!!

And the boys check themselves out before getting ready to roll out…

I learnt very early on in the day that Lex is quite the ham in front of the camera![]()

And here he is with the other two women in his life, his mother, and his auntie:

As for the venue… they picked the Rio Theatre on Broadway and Commercial, which they transformed into a glam movie premiere. Derek did their engagement shoot a couple of weeks prior, and it was really neat to see that they had turned their engagement shoot photos into movie posters! They titled their “movie” as Dia De La Boda, which translates into “day of the wedding” in Spanish
Very cool and very creative. They also rolled out a red carpet and had me man it as the paparazzi! TONS OF FUN!

Then, the coolest part of the whole thing was the CEREMONY ITSELF!! Chrisse and Lex got married on the platform stage inside the Rio, and they walked down the movie aisle in front of all of their seated guests, who filled the movie theater seats! The lighting was very challenging but thanks to Derek’s genius setup, everything turned out great:

AAAND… THEY’RE MARRIED!

After the lovely ceremony, there was a ton of live music, food, cupcakes, and fun. Check out the rest of the images below…

And probably the coolest bridal session portrait ever:

And the perfect expression to say, “YEA! JUST MARRIED!”?
